I am a proud native of Maryland's Eastern Shore. After careers in broadcast journalism and government public relations, I enjoyed nearly three decades as a member of the faculty of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas. I won the George Foster Peabody Award in 1984 while at WRAL-FM in Raleigh, North Carolina. I am the sole author of two books, Bridging the Chesapeake: A 'Fool Idea' That Unified Marylandand Thirteen Minutes: Death of An American High School and co-author of three public relations textbooks and the ABA Award-winning Media Guide for Attorneys. My latest book, In the Moment: The Journey of the Class of'70, is expected to be released in late 2024. I am also a member of the Easton (Maryland) High School Athletic Hall of Fame as manager of the 1968 Maryland Class B Boys Basketball Champion Easton Warriors.
